Schumer, Elmer Peter, age 98, of Minnetonka, passed away on March 1, 2024. Elmer was born on May 1, 1925 in St. Stephen, MN to Peter and Agnes (Smoley) Schumer. After graduating from Holdingford High School, he proudly served his country in WWII as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant stationed in Greenland. Upon his return he met and married Kathleen (Kitty) Heinen. They enjoyed a full married life of almost 60 years until her passing in 2012.
Elmer was known for his strong work ethic, his love for his family, and his quick sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him, especially his children: LuAnn Berg, Russ (Judith) Schumer, Bill (Rhonda) Schumer, Kathy (Terry) Mueller, Bonnie Schumer, Debbie Schumer; his sixteen grandchildren: Michael Berg, Jessica Berg, Mitch Schumer, Mistica Schumer, Kelly (Jake) Gannon, Peter Schumer, Kyle (fiancée Erin) Schumer, Nick (Jamie) Mueller, Laura (Scott) Weidlich, Blake (partner Suzy) Mueller, Krista Mueller, Melissa (fiancé Chase) Trebil, Ryan (partner Rebecca) Fuller, Annie (Grant) Walters, Michel (fiancée Meara) Fuller, Joe (partner Madison) Fuller, and his four great-grandchildren: Desmond Schumer, Cooper Mueller, Michael Weidlich and Lucia Walters.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife Kitty, his parents, brother Walter, and sisters Lorraine, Olivia, Veronica, and Edna. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 630 E. Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN. Visitation one hour prior to Mass at church. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery, Shorewood.
